Southwest Tech, in collaboration with the Altus Air Force Base (AAFB) STEM Office, recently hosted an engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) event for 6th-grade students from district schools. The initiative aimed to provide young minds with hands-on experiences, fostering an early interest in STEAM-related careers.
The event brought together 6th graders from Blair, Duke, Granite, Hollis, Navajo, Mangum, and Olustee/Eldorado, creating a dynamic learning environment at Southwest Tech's campus. Students were immersed in various activities tailored to showcase the diverse and exciting opportunities within the STEAM fields.
One of the highlights of the event was the participation of AAFB Environmental, which brought local species for the students to observe and learn about. This hands-on encounter with the region's biodiversity not only sparked curiosity but also emphasized the importance of environmental sciences within the broader STEAM spectrum.
In the Southwest Tech Construction Trades classroom, students took on the role of engineers as they designed and built structures, gaining practical insights into the field of construction and engineering. This interactive experience allowed participants to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
The collaboration between Southwest Tech and AAFB STEM Office showcased the commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators. By exposing students to a variety of STEAM disciplines, the event aimed to inspire and empower them to consider exciting career paths in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
Southwest Tech is proud to contribute to the educational development of local students and appreciates the support from the AAFB STEM Office in making this event a success. Such initiatives align with Southwest Tech's mission to provide quality education and foster a passion for learning that extends beyond traditional classrooms.
