Southwest Tech is pleased to announce being a recipient of the Oklahoma Lottery Grant through the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. The $200,000 grant has enabled Southwest Tech to make significant investments in its Aviation Maintenance Technician program, furthering the institution's commitment to providing high-quality education and training for students pursuing careers in aviation.
With the support of the Oklahoma Lottery Grant, Southwest Tech has procured a PT6 Turbo Jet engine, a crucial addition to its training facilities. This state-of-the-art equipment will provide students with hands-on experience and practical training, preparing them for the demands of the aviation industry, one of the most high-demand career fields in the state. The opportunity for students to work with a PT6 Turbo Jet engine will greatly enhance their skillset and readiness for employment upon completion of the program.
In addition to the PT6 Turbo Jet engine, the grant has also facilitated the acquisition of an Environmental Cabin Control Trainer. This trainer will enable students to gain real-world experience in environmental control systems, further enhancing their understanding of aircraft systems and maintenance practices.
The Aviation Maintenance Technician program at Southwest Tech is an FAA Part 147 program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the field of aviation maintenance. The program spans 18 months for full-time adult students and 2.5 years for high school students, providing comprehensive training that meets the highest industry standards.
