Students Learning Health Science

Southwest Tech welcomed 8th-grade students from Blair, Duke, Granite, Hollis, Navajo, Mangum, and Olustee/Eldorado for its annual Career Exploration Day. The event aimed to provide students with valuable insights into various career paths and the educational requirements needed to pursue their chosen professions.

Throughout the day, students actively engaged in a range of interactive activities designed to broaden their understanding of different careers and the pathways to achieve them. One highlight of the event was the Career Scavenger Hunt, where students embarked on a quest around the campus to uncover clues linking specific educational paths to various careers. This hands-on activity not only encouraged critical thinking but also fostered an appreciation for the connection between education and career success.

"The Career Exploration Day offers a unique opportunity for local 8th graders to explore their interests and aspirations," said Christie Rogers, Director of Student Services at Southwest Tech. "By participating in interactive activities like the Career Scavenger Hunt, students gain valuable insights into the educational requirements and career opportunities available to them."

In addition to learning about different career paths, students also had the chance to discover the programs offered at Southwest Tech that can help them pursue their interests further. Southwest Tech offers programs that are available to local high school juniors and seniors free of charge, providing students with valuable skills and training to prepare them for future success.

"We're committed to supporting our local students as they prepare for high school and beyond," added Rogers. "By exposing them to the programs available at Southwest Tech, we aim to empower them with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their academic and career pathways."

The Career Exploration Day at Southwest Tech is an annual event that plays a crucial role in helping local 8th graders transition into high school with clarity and confidence. Through engaging activities and exposure to valuable educational opportunities, students are equipped with the tools they need to pursue their dreams and achieve success in their chosen careers. Altus 8th graders will participate in the Career Exploration Day later this month.
