Southwest Tech Classroom with Oklahoma Teacher of the Year

Southwest Tech hosted its semi-annual Cooperative Inservice, bringing together faculty and staff from Blair, Duke, Granite, Navajo, and Olustee/Eldorado school districts for a day of professional development and collaboration.

The event featured a lineup of esteemed guest speakers, offering attendees a choice of three professional development opportunities tailored to enhance their skills and effectiveness in the classroom.

Kelly Barnes, renowned speaker and motivator, delivered a high-energy and interactive message titled "Prisoners, Vacationers, or Students." Barnes inspired educators to transcend self-interest and engage fully with their students, empowering them to be their best selves every day.

Dawn Irons presented "Powerful Instructional Practices (PIPs)," focusing on empowering teachers to design lessons that encourage student ownership of learning, fostering higher levels of achievement.

Traci Manuel, Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, shared "Effective Classroom Management Techniques to Help the New Teacher," offering valuable insights and strategies for new and experienced teachers alike.

Dennis Parker's session, "Changing Lives, Building Character," provided a research-based approach to developing character qualities, enhancing personal lives, and building stronger relationships.

Christie Rogers delivered "Talk Saves Lives," a vital training session addressing the issue of suicide prevention, a requirement by the Oklahoma State Department of Education every five years for educators.

Mike Williams and Christie Rogers introduced "Magic School AI," a groundbreaking tool designed to assist educators with various tasks such as lesson planning, writing assessments, and improving communication in the classroom.
