Southwest Technology Center (SWTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jarod Abernathy as the newest member of its Board of Education. A lifelong Altus resident and fifth-generation farmer, Abernathy brings a deep commitment to community service, sustainability, and education.
Raised in Altus, Abernathy attended Western Oklahoma State College and Oklahoma State University before returning to work on his family farm alongside his father and brother. His dedication to farming and community values reflects his family's longstanding commitment to the Altus area. Jarod and his wife, Jill, are proud parents of two children, Cade and Drake, and are active members of the First Methodist Church of Altus.
In addition to his work on the family farm, Abernathy serves on the Jackson County Conservation District Board, where he advocates for soil and water conservation and supports programs that raise awareness about sustainable practices. His experience in this role has strengthened his commitment to preserving natural resources while building a vibrant, sustainable community.
Abernathy’s dedication to education stems from his belief that schools lay the foundation for future success. His involvement with the Southwest Tech Board of Education provides him with valuable insights into the district’s needs and goals, allowing him to advocate for resources, policies, and initiatives that support a positive learning environment for all students. Jarod and Jill Abernathy actively support educational initiatives within the district, recognizing the importance of providing quality education to every student.
“Working alongside my family on the farm has taught me the value of hard work, collaboration, and community,” said Abernathy. “I look forward to bringing these values to my role on the Board of Education and to supporting Southwest Tech’s mission of preparing students for successful careers. I am excited to work with the board, staff, and community to enhance opportunities for our students.”
Jarod Abernathy’s strong community ties, dedication to education, and experience in conservation make him a valuable addition to Southwest Technology Center’s Board of Education. SWTC welcomes Jarod and looks forward to the positive impact his leadership will have on the future of the center and the community it serves.
