Southwest Technology Center’s Student Services team and Teacher Prep program recently collaborated with Altus Intermediate School (AIS) to host an engaging STEAM Day for fifth-grade students. The event provided hands-on activities designed to ignite curiosity and foster interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).

Southwest Tech’s Teacher Prep students facilitated the interactive learning

stations, which included:

• Engineering Challenge: Building structures with solo cups to promote teamwork and problem-solving.

• Color Theory Fun: Crafting color wheels out of playdough to explore the science behind colors.

• Artistic Expression: Creating masterpieces using bulletin board games to integrate creativity and strategy.

• Life-Saving Skills: Practicing CPR techniques to introduce basic health science concepts.

The event highlighted the importance of early exposure to STEAM disciplines and allowed AIS students to experience these subjects in an engaging, hands-on way.

Southwest Tech extends a special thank-you to Samantha Gregory, AIS Counselor, and Lori Redden, AIS Principal, for welcoming Southwest Tech and making this collaboration possible.

“Partnerships like these are essential for inspiring the next generation of innovators,” said Kimmie Allen, Southwest Tech Counselor. “We’re proud to connect with the students at Altus Intermediate School and provide opportunities that may spark lifelong interests in STEAM fields.”
