This week, Southwest Technology Center (SWTC) opened its doors to approximately 230 Altus Junior High 8th-grade students for the annual Career Exploration Day, held on Monday and Tuesday. This interactive event aimed to inspire students to start considering their future careers as they prepare to enter high school next year.
On Wednesday, January 29, 8th graders from Blair, Duke, Granite, Hollis, Navajo, Mangum, and Olustee/Eldorado will join the activities. These students will also have the opportunity to visit various programs across the campus, engaging in hands-on activities and gaining insights into potential career paths while interacting with Southwest Tech’s instructors and students.
The event was organized as a creative scavenger hunt, with career clues leading students to different programs throughout the campus. At each stop, students participated in interactive career-oriented activities designed to spark interest and excitement about their futures.
“Our goal with Career Exploration Day is to get young minds rolling and thinking about their future,” said Ericka Wiginton, Southwest Tech Campus Director/COO. “By exposing students to a variety of career opportunities now, they can start envisioning pathways that align with their interests and goals.”
High school students attending Altus, Blair, Duke, Granite, Hollis, Navajo, Mangum, and Olustee/Eldorado have a unique opportunity to attend Southwest Tech tuition-free during their junior and senior years. This allows students to gain valuable career skills and certifications while still in high school, setting them up for success post-graduation.
