Superintendents and educators from across Southwest Oklahoma recently gathered to engage in an important discussion with Shawna Nord, Manager of Counseling and Career Development with the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. The meeting focused on the implications of new graduation requirements outlined in House Bills 3278, as well as HB 1425 concerning religious instruction.
With the passage of HB 3278, school districts must navigate new academic criteria for high school graduates. The discussion emphasized how Career Tech programs provide a strong pathway for students to meet these requirements while gaining valuable, hands-on skills for the workforce. Additionally, HB 1425, which pertains to religious instruction in public schools, was reviewed.
Southwest Tech Superintendent/CEO Dale Latham expressed enthusiasm about the event’s turnout and the opportunity to collaborate with area public schools. “We are excited to work with our public school partners to ensure students meet the new graduation requirements while also preparing them for success in their future careers,” Latham stated.
As graduation expectations evolve, Southwest Tech remains committed to supporting students, educators, and administrators in navigating these changes and leveraging Career Tech as a vital solution.
