Southwest Tech’s Cosmetology Program: Growing Opportunities in Beauty and Community Service

Southwest Technology Center (SWTC) in Altus, Oklahoma, offers a comprehensive Cosmetology program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in the beauty industry. The program covers a wide range of services, including manicuring, pedicuring, facials, scalp treatments, hair styling, thermal styling, blow drying, shampoo tints and bleaches, hair cutting, lash and brow dyeing and arching, personality and shop management, and chemical texturizing.

Program Expansion to Meet Demand

In response to the growing interest in the beauty industry and an extensive waitlist for acceptance, SWTC is expanding the Cosmetology program this year. The expansion aims to meet industry and community demand by transitioning to a two-instructor format, ultimately accommodating more students and enhancing the learning experience.

Meet Instructor Mrs. Gina Seedig

The program is led by Mrs. Gina Seedig, a dedicated instructor whose passion for her students and the community is evident through extensive community service and outreach activities. Under her guidance, students have participated in various events, showcasing their skills and contributing to the community's well-being.

Multiple Pathways for Success

The Cosmetology program at SWTC offers several pathways, including:

  • 1,000- and 1,500-hour tracks for licensure preparation

  • A Master Instructor option for licensed cosmetologists who wish to advance their teaching careers

High school juniors and seniors can enroll in one of two sessions: 8:00-11:00 AM or 12:00-3:00 PM, starting in August. Upon completion, students are prepared for careers as cosmetologists, makeup artists, or salon owners, with the opportunity to obtain the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering License.
