Shelly Smith joined the Southwest Tech family on a temporary basis this past summer and earned a full-time position which began July 1, 2022. Since coming to work at Southwest Tech Shelly has made tremendous efforts to enhance both campuses. The Employee of the Month nomination read, "I am nominating Shelly Smith for the next available Employee of the Month Award, myself as well as all of us here at the Hangar notice and appreciate how hard she works on this whole facility to make it an awesome student atmosphere. She Never takes a break, always on the go, uses her time as well as anyone I've ever seen. She is always eager to take on a task and greets everyone with a cheerful smile and a happy 'Good Morning!' Her work ethic is beyond reproach and these qualities are rarely seen in this day and age. She was here at the hanger on a Friday afternoon after 5pm mopping the bathrooms and putting the finishing touches on a week's worth of work, when I asked her what in the world are you doing here? Her response was, I'm waiting on my husband to finish up his work and was waiting around for a ride home and chose to spend her free time owning her Hangar. She has helped me immensely on huge facility improvements and everyday maintenance issues all summer and continues through today! There's not a closet or storage area in the building that she hasn't made into a useful, organized, well planned out, functional area. She painted all the doors and touched up many areas throughout the hanger without being asked, and in fact these were her ideas. With her ever present assistance to me all things Hangar 33 we are shining as brightly as her smile. She went all out with hard work on the outside areas as well, by filling holes with dirt, trimming all the shrubs/bushes, cutting down wild trees and generally just looking for what needs attention. She jumped right into doing the hard work of putting in new mulch and brick edging around the bushes adjacent the main entry doors in the 100°+ heat of the summer. The public approach to the front doors/ main entry is looking better than ever and creates a professional look. She finds time to mow the grass weekly, edge and helps me keep it watered without asking. She cares about every job she tackles and completes every project with a "Pride in Ownership" that every employer dreams of."
