Southwest Tech-Hangar 33 "Aviation Spotlight of the Week" is on Team "Power Plant" and highlights these students eagerly diving into learning even more about the complexity of keeping aircraft safe and in airworthy condition. In the short 2.5 weeks of class, they've already tore down and now reassembling them. In a short 6 months these folks will be Graduating to enter the challenging world of aviation maintenance. "Blue Skies and Tailwinds"

The Art of Communication: The Graphic Design students engage in fun presentations and activities like the Minefield game to sharpen their communication skills. Presentations allow students to practice articulating their design concepts clearly and confidently to an audience, which is essential for conveying ideas effectively in professional settings. The Minefield game adds an interactive element to this skill-building process. In this activity, students must guide their blindfolded peers through a "minefield" using only verbal instructions. This challenges them to communicate directions concisely and precisely, reinforcing the importance of clarity in communication. Through these exercises, students enhance their presentation abilities and develop critical listening and teamwork skills that are vital in the design field.

Southwest Tech is proud to announce the award of $10,000 in N.E.X.T. (Next Experience in Training) Scholarship tuition waivers to four exceptional students. This scholarship initiative is designed to support young adults in our district by providing a 1,000-hour tuition waiver, valued at $2,500 each, to assist them in achieving their educational goals. The recipients of this year’s N.E.X.T. Scholarships are: Ace from the Graphic Design program Byron Ford from the Aviation Maintenance program Tyler Massey from the Aviation Maintenance program Joseph Basaldua from the Powerplant program These students were selected based on their qualifications, including being under the age of 21, graduating from a Southwest Tech partner school, and submitting a complete application explaining their financial need for success in their respective programs. "The N.E.X.T. Scholarship is an important initiative that highlights Southwest Tech's commitment to empowering the next generation of skilled professionals in our community. By reducing the financial burden of education, the scholarship allows these young adults to focus on their studies and excel in their chosen fields," said Dale Latham, Southwest Tech Superintendent/CEO Pictured with the scholarship recipients are Dale Latham and Ericka Wiginton, Southwest Tech COO, who have been instrumental in championing this initiative.
